The Green footprint planting is a partnership between the Waihora Ellesmere Trust, Youth Hostel Association, Selwyn District Council and Enviroschools.

In 2004, YHA New Zealand Inc. made a commitment to offset 333.33 tons of carbon dioxide; approximately 40% of its total carbon emissions in 2003/2004.  As part of this commitment, YHA New Zealand Inc. created the Green Footprint project. Funds raised by by YHA are used to purchase the plants and they also supply food for a bbq lunch.

This year the Green footprint planting will return to Coes Ford and will happen on Friday 20th September starting at 10 am.
