On Thursday some enthusiastic students from years 5 to 8 did competitive, two length swimming races at Southbridge Community pool. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were lucky to have a shady spot to wait for our races.

We had the choice of competing in 4 different races. There was freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly. Some races had so many people in them they had to have heats. We could choose to dive in or start from inside the pool.

While we were lining up for our race our legs were shaking and we had butterflies in our tummy. It was so nice to get into the water, it was refreshing on such a hot day. The water streamed across our ears.

Our races started with a BANG of the clappers. The noise of the cheering crowd helped us to swim as fast as we could. When the race was done our legs felt like jelly.

We were very lucky at the end of the sports to have a free swim.
