Team 4

Joel Thomson

Syndicate Leader

I am starting my fourth year at Lincoln Primary School after teaching in Tauranga and South Korea. I am the Syndicate 2 team leader but also get chances to work with students across the school during enrichment, particularly sporting activities. I have a passion for teaching mathematics and enjoy physical education. I believe that the classroom should be an enjoyable place for both teachers and students where we find a passion for learning and taking risks. Outside of school, I play indoor cricket during the winter months. I give most sports a go and try to get out and join in with students when I can. I enjoy time with family, going to the beach and water activities.

Jill Johnson

I moved from England to New Zealand with my family in 2009 and feel privileged to live in beautiful Selwyn.  Previously, I taught in Germany and England. I began teaching at Lincoln Primary School during 2017 and love working here.
I have a very musical background and enjoy making music and performing with children. I learnt to play the Euphonium and Piano when I was very young and continue today as a member of Addington Brass.  We perform regularly in The Transitional Cardboard Cathedral and other venues, contesting annually around New Zealand. I have a few enthusiastic piano students and love singing great choral classics in choirs when I have time to do so.  This year I will be playing in the Lincoln School Band, setting up a marimba group and working with the junior and senior choirs in school.
In my spare time I like to visit the cinema, dine out and explore New Zealand.  To stay healthy I enjoy walking, cycling and skiing. I am married to Nick and together we have two fantastic teenage boys.  As a family we regularly support The Crusaders and The All Blacks.

I was fortunate to receive ACET Recognition (Advanced Classroom Expert Teacher) in 2014. I am responsible for Maori Development at Lincoln Primary and running our large Kapahaka group. I am also the Staff Board of Trustees Rep.

Outside of school I am Mum to two children, a teenage daughter at Lincoln High and a son who attends Lincoln Primary School. I enjoy going to the gym, walking our dogs, spending time with the family and reading a good book.

Karen James

I have been teaching at Lincoln Primary School since 2006 and during my time  here I have taught almost every year level. I entered The Christchurch College of Education after having spent time at home bringing up my own children and I have never once regretted my career change! I love the fact that every day brings something new and often surprising. Watching children's’ eyes light up when they suddenly realise that they ‘got it’ is a huge buzz. Outside of school I love to spend time with my 3 sons (all of which are now at UC) and my husband John. I enjoy reading historical novels, watching movies and traveling. I am an avid fan of theme parks - the more extreme the ride, the better! I imagine that most children I have taught wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that I am a huge Disney fan!

Franco Prisco

I have been teaching at Lincoln Primary School since 1998.  I grew up and was educated in Switzerland, and trained as a teacher in Dunedin. I have a passion for using iPads in my teaching. I enjoy playing chess and run the chess club during Enrichment days. I am looking forward to working with Year 3 students this year. I am excited to help our students on their learning journey and give them the tools and skills to become future focused learners. In my spare time, I spend as much time as possible with my lovely wife and our children. Our oldest two children are at University and the youngest one has to wait another few years before he is allowed to start school.  I am an enthusiastic photographer, biker and tramper.

Having spent  approximately 16 years working in various roles  in the banking industry, I decided when we moved to Christchurch to have a change of career. I completed a Certificate for Teacher Aide qualification through Massey University and then went on to gain my Bachelor of Teaching and Learning degree  through the Christchurch College of Education, in association with the University of Canterbury. After working as a classroom teacher at Westburn School in Christchurch I took up a position at Lincoln Primary School as the Librarian. In 2013 I decided to return to full time teaching. I have always been passionate about working with our younger students and I am looking forward to working with our Year 3’s this year.I also hold a management unit for work related to the running of our school library. When not at school I enjoy spending time with my husband Mac and our two daughters Meagan 23 (school teacher at Cobham Intermediate) and Sarah 20 (studying nursing).

I graduated from Christchurch University in December 2018, I completed a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Primary). My final placement was spent working with the Year 2’s at Lincoln Primary School from the middle of Term 3 last year. I was overjoyed to be offered the opportunity to continue working with the Year 2’s until the end of the year. I feel very grateful and excited to now be part of the Year 3 team and are very much looking forward to what the year ahead will bring.
I am originally from the UK and have been in New Zealand for around 6 years. My Bachelors degree is in Aquatic Zoology. I have spent the last 6 years working in the conservation field with both the Department of Conservation and the Ministry for Primary Industries. I have a very strong interest in the environment and sustainability in general. Outside of school I enjoy to surf and practice yoga.
