Syndicate 2 - Years 3 & 4 - Teacher Profiles

Team 3

Franco Prisco

have been teaching at Lincoln Primary School since 1998.  I grew up and was educated in Switzerland, and trained as a teacher in Dunedin.  I have a passion for using iPads in my teaching.  I enjoy playing chess and run the chess club during Enrichment days.  I am looking forward to working with Year 3 students this year and being part of Team 3.  I am excited to help introduce FIE to our students and give them the tools to help them on their learning journey.
In my spare time, I spend as much time as possible with my lovely wife and our children. I am an enthusiastic photographer, biker and tramper.

Rebecca Thomspon

I have been teaching for about 18 years, either in the classroom or in EOTC spaces, like the Air Force Museum or International Antarctic Centre.  I graduated in 1994 and have taught in South Otago and Christchurch. I am lucky enough to be trained in FIE and love the way this enhances children’s thinking and learning.

Matt Brorens

I started my teaching career at Lincoln Primary in Term 3 last year (2016). My journey began relieving at Lincoln Primary in Year 1 for two weeks.  My first thought was, “I get paid to do this”.  It did not feel like a job to me.  I knew I was lucky to be a part of this school. After two weeks, I transferred to new entrants for the rest of the year.  This was an amazing experience. Though challenging, I loved it.  I will never forget all the hugs and smiling faces which I was lucky enough to have greet me each morning.
This year I am excited to be teaching Year 3! I love sport and immerse myself at any opportunity; for example, co-ordinating the Syndicate 1 Athletics.   Music is also a big part of who I am.  I have recently started a drum club which I hope to expand as the year progresses. I’m extremely lucky to share my passions with others and watch children build a love for learning.

Team 4

Joel Thomson

I am starting my second year at Lincoln Primary School after six years teaching in Tauranga.  I am the Syndicate 2 Team Leader and will be supporting our house leaders and student technicians throughout the school.  I have a passion for teaching Mathematics and enjoy Physical Education. I believe that the classroom should be an enjoyable place for both teachers and students where we find a passion for learning and taking risks.
Outside of school, I play cricket every Saturday and indoor cricket during the winter months.  I give most sports a go and even took up boxing for a term last year.  I enjoy time with family, going to the beach and water activities. I’m used to warm activities so haven’t been brave enough to get into any skiing or snowboarding here. I’m quickly making Christchurch my new home and finding out all that it has to offer.

Karen James

I have been teaching at Lincoln Primary School since 2006 and during my 10 years here I have taught almost every year level.  I entered The Christchurch College of Education after having spent time at home bringing up my own children and I have never once regretted my career change! I love the fact that every day brings something new and often surprising. Watching children's’ eyes light up when they suddenly realise that they ‘got it’ is a huge buzz.
I have enjoyed organising and ensuring that Pets Day runs smoothly for the past 3 or 4 years. This year I am also sharing responsibility for the production which I am hugely excited about.
Outside of school I love to spend time with my three sons (when they’re home!!), Stefan (20), Caleb (18) and Hamish (16) and my husband John.  I enjoy reading historical novels, watching movies and travel.  I am an avid fan of theme parks - the more extreme the ride, the better!  I imagine that most children I have taught wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that I am a huge Disney fan!

Jenny Schmidli

I have been fortunate to be a member of the Lincoln Primary School Teaching team for coming up three years.  I have taught Year 0/1 and Year 4.  Prior to working in Lincoln I worked in Rolleston.  I have a real passion for teaching The Arts and you will often find me singing and doing Jump Jam. Since being at Lincoln I have taken on leadership as the Syndicate 2 eLearning leader. I thoroughly enjoy using digital technologies to enhance learning and working with others to develop their knowledge and skills.
