Syndicate 2 - Years 3 & 4 - Teacher Profiles

Year 4

Joel Thomson

Syndicate Leader

I started at Lincoln Primary in 2016 after teaching in Tauranga and South Korea. I am the Syndicate 2 team leader but also get chances to work with students across the school during enrichment, particularly sporting activities. I have a passion for teaching mathematics and enjoy physical education. I believe that the classroom should be an enjoyable place for both teachers and students where we find a passion for learning and taking risks. Outside of school, I play indoor cricket during the winter months. I give most sports a go and try to get out and join in with students when I can. I enjoy time with family, going to the beach and water activities.

James Keen

I have been teaching at Lincoln Primary since 2019. I completed my teaching qualification at the University of Canterbury and then taught in Rarotonga for five years. I absolutely loved my time living and teaching in such a unique, beautiful and occasionally challenging environment. I met my wife there, and we now have a very busy three year old boy.   I enjoy teaching all curriculum areas, though I find my strengths lie in Maths, Writing, and Physical Education. I am a firm believer in the value of creating and nurturing positive relationships within the classroom learning environment. Outside of school I really enjoy spending time with my family, exploring the outdoors, good coffee and food, watching the mighty Crusaders and getting stuck into a new movie or tv show.

Ann An

I graduated from the University of Canterbury in December, 2019 and  joined Lincoln Primary School in 2020. I have been an ESOL teacher as well as the principal of an English training school in Beijing for four years before I moved to New Zealand in 2018. I am originally from China and my first language is Madarin Chinese. I believe that a great teacher can make a real difference in young children’s lives. I value the diversity of my students and respect each of them as a unique individual. It is my goal to create a secure and caring learning environment for the children to grow and mature emotionally and intellectually. Outside of school, I like Latin dance and I am learning Salsa, Kizomba and Bachata. I also enjoy good food, cooking, traveling and singing.

Year 3

Samuel Fowler

Having lived in Lincoln for 10 years now, I am very grateful to be at Lincoln Primary School.
This will be my second year of teaching after graduating in 2018. I spent 2019 at Oaklands School, also working in year 3. For me, seeing students give their best effort everyday in their learning through fun yet challenging activities motivates me to get the best out of my students. I have spent the last 6 years coaching various football (and futsal) teams across a range of age-groups, attending various tournaments and enjoying different levels of success at each of these.
My spare time mostly involves being at my family-owned CrossFit gym in Rolleston. I grew up in a sporty family so it’s nice to be able to spend time with them doing something we all enjoy. Otherwise I may be found playing, watching, or coaching football, watching  the Crusaders, and various other sports (excluding cricket) and enjoying the outdoors. If the weather is not up to standard, I may enjoy reading a good book or catching up on my favourite TV series.

Jill Johnson

I moved from England to New Zealand in 2009 and feel privileged to live in beautiful Selwyn.  Previously, I taught in Germany and England. I began teaching at Lincoln Primary School during 2017 and love working here.
I have a very musical background and enjoy making music and performing with children.  I learnt to play the Euphonium and Piano when I was very young and continue today as a member of Addington Brass.  We perform regularly in The Transitional Cardboard Cathedral and other venues, contesting annually around New Zealand.  I have a few enthusiastic piano students and love singing great choral classics in choirs when I have time to do so. Once again I will be playing in the Lincoln School Concert Band and working with the junior and senior choirs in school.
In my spare time I like to visit the cinema, dine out and explore New Zealand.  To stay healthy I enjoy walking, cycling and skiing. I am married to Nick and together we have two fantastic teenage boys.  As a family we regularly support The Crusaders and The All Blacks.

Year 3

Franco Prisco

I have been teaching at Lincoln Primary School since 1998.  I grew up and was educated in Switzerland, and trained as a teacher in Dunedin. I have a passion for using iPads in my teaching. I enjoy playing chess and I organise the chess club during Enrichment days. I am looking forward to working with a new group of Year 3 students this year. I am excited to help our students on their learning journey and give them the tools and skills to become future focused learners. In my spare time, I spend as much time as possible with my lovely wife and our children. Our oldest three children have finished their schooling and the youngest one has to wait another year before he is allowed to start school.  I am an enthusiastic photographer.

Meeghan Coetzee

I graduated from Cape Town Teachers Training College, South Africa in 1998.  My majors  at college were Physical Education and Library/Media skills.   I went on to teach in the United Kingdom for seven years and then returned home to continue teaching children from the ages of 5 to 12.  After teaching in South Africa for 13 years my family and I decided to relocate to Christchurch.  In July 2018 I started in Syndicate One with the new entrant learners and moved with them to Year 1.  In 2019 I had the privilege of teaching in Syndicate Three with the Year ⅚ team.  I successfully completed my fully registered teacher application in 2019.  I am now registered to teach in three countries in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres.  This year I am teaching in Syndicate Two with the Year 3 Team.  This is one of my favourite year groups as I started my career here with many exciting memories and experiences.  I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being outdoors and exploring New Zealand as much as possible.  Both my children attend Lincoln Primary. Judah in Year 4 and Claire in Year 2. I look forward to another year of building relationships and exploring our wonderful  community.

Laura Mummery

I started teaching at Lincoln Primary School in 2017. I completed my studies at the University of Auckland where I taught for 3 years before moving back home to Christchurch. I love being back home closer to family and working in the community where I grew up.  I am excited to be part of Syndicate 2 this year teaching in Year 3. I enjoy teaching Mathematics and Reading and thinking of new ways we can support and encourage all learners to feel success in the classroom. Outside of school I enjoy cooking, being active, getting outside and spending time as a family.
